Showing once again that the
runway needs to be extented, this Canadian Regional flight #8604 jet(above) skidded off the end
of the runway during it's landing at Fredericton Airport early Tuesday, November 28, 2000, stopping
short of the fence and Lincoln Road. Ironically almost three years to the day that
Air Canada Flight 646 met a worse fate by leaving the runway and
slamming into a grove of trees. This photograph won first place in news in the Eastern
Canadian News Photographers Association monthly clip contest.

with the Transportation
Safety Board carries the black box data recorder removed from the jet, and below
Transportation Safety Board investigator in charge Paul Traversy, right, glances back at
the jet as he walks toward the runway where flight 8604 was supposed to stop.
